Bluffton Rotary News

The Bluffton Rotary recognized eight of its members for achieving a special designation as a “10 Star Rotarian.” This designation is based on a Rotarian earning a minimum of 110 points for specific services he or she has rendered to their club, Rotary and the Bluffton community.

The local business leaders who were recently recognized for this special designation include: Christopher Corkern, Eric Deaton, Robert Guinan, Dee Dee Graham, Karen Lavery, Steve Miller, Tom Wing and Dan Wood.

The Bluffton Rotary is a local service club made up of individuals representing the business community. The group meets together each Wednesday morning at 7:30 am at the Schults Community Center at Oscar Frazier Park and participates in a number of events throughout the Bluffton community including the bi-annual Rotary Polo for Charity, Bluffton Oyster Roast and Bluffton Seafood Festival.

HH CHORAL SOCIETY PRESENTS THE WORLD-RENOWNED VIENNA CHOIR BOYS

The Hilton Head Choral Society is bringing the world-famous Vienna Choir Boys to the Lowcountry for its premiere Presenting Series concert. This exclusive, one-night-only performance will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Founded by Austrian Emperor Maximilian I in 1498, the choir of boy sopranos ages 10 to 14 continues to delight audiences around the world with their angelic voices and eclectic program of music. Program highlights for the Hilton Head concert include operettas, folk songs, classical masterpieces and medieval chants.

Oldfield to Host Third Annual Dove Hunt
Turkey Hill Plantation
To Benefit the March of Dimes

Oldfield, an award-winning private club community in Okatie, S.C., will host the Third Annual Dove Hunt at Turkey Hill Plantation in Ridgeland, S.C., on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at noon to benefit the March of Dimes on Hilton Head Island.
“Each year, we bring Lowcountry hunters together to raise money to help prevent birth defects and premature births,” said Jay Page, Oldfield’s vice president and project manager, who also serves on the Board of Directors for the local March of Dimes chapter. “It’s a great cause.”
The cost to participate is $100, which includes dove hunting and lunch. Open to the public.To register for the Dove Hunt at Turkey Hill Plantation, please call Oldfield’s Outfitters Center at (843) 645-4604.

19th Annual SC Archaeology Discovery Day - Nov. 4th, 2006

The Archaeological Society of South Carolina, Inc. invites you to the 19th Annual South Carolina Archaeology Discovery Day, which will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Santee State Park, from 9:00AM to 4:00PM. The theme of the Field Day will be “Primitive Technologies.”
Admission includes all activities, exhibits, lectures, and State Park entrance fee. Adults: $6.00, Children (age 7-15) $ 2.00, School groups: $1.00 per child.

BEAUFORT COUNTY CALENDAR

A photo by Edmund T. Funk entitled “Days End” has been selected for the cover of the 2007 Beaufort County calendar, which reflects the theme, Beaufort County Traditions.
The photo depicts oystermen returning home at sunset, their boat and bodies silhouetted against the setting sun and has also been a Bluffton Breeze Magazine cover. It was chosen from among nearly 200 entries in an annual calendar photo contest sponsored by Beaufort County Council.
