Bluffton Rotary Club Garners Awards

The Rotary Club of Bluffton received three awards and two citations at the 2008 District 7770 conference awards banquet in Myrtle Beach, SC on March 30, 2008. The biggest award of the evening came as a surprise to the local club. They received a Rotary International Significant Achievement Award for their efforts in planning, coordinating and constructing the Bluffton Community Center and the Field of Dreams at Oscar Frazier Park.

“There are over 33,000 clubs ,” described John Howe, Assistant District Governor. Only 150 Rotary International Significant Achievement Awards are given each year. Gaining an RI Significant Achievement Award is competitive and is a first for the Rotary Club of Bluffton and quite an achievement.”

The club also received a district award for the completion of the Field of Dreams project in 2007, an award for outstanding club web site, a rotary district governor’s citation and the rotary international president’s citation for meeting all the goals that were set for each club for the year 2007.

“We provided the Bluffton community with a much needed meeting place and a new park area,” stated Steve Tilton, Bluffton Rotary president in his acceptance remarks. “And, we saved the taxpayers over $1 million in the process. It was a significant project that benefits all of greater Bluffton. It was a community effort. It was a rotary effort. Now, that’s Service Above Self.”
