“A Look at Lowcountry History”
The Coastal Discovery Museum and the Heritage Library Foundation are pleased to announce a monthly series of programs regarding the Lowcountry’s unique history. Reservations are requested for these programs, which will be held in the Discovery House at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. FOURTH ANNUAL CUPID’S ARROW GOLF CLASSIC
The Fourth Annual Cupid’s Arrow Golf Classic will be held on November 10, 2008, at Oldfield Golf Club. The event will begin at 11:30 am with a shot gun start. Registration is scheduled for 10:00 am.
All proceeds from this tournament benefit the John A. (Jack) Kolbush Memorial Fund at Backus Children’s Hospital at Memorial Health University Medical Center. This fund was set up in loving memory of Jack Kolbush who lost his life to cancer at the age of five in March of 2006. All monies will be used to assist patients with cancer and blood disorders at Backus Children’s Hospital.

Hampton Lake Hosts Book Signing for Local Gullah Culture Author
When: 11 a.m. November 12, a Wednesday.

Description: Lecture and book signing by famed area author, Pierre McGowan, a native of St. Helena Island and a prominent fixture in the Gullah community. SOCIETY OF BLUFFTON ARTISTS (SoBA)
The Society of Bluffton Artists Gallery announces two classes with award winning artist Lynda Potter.
Lynda’s Creative Water Media will be held November 5,6,7 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
In this class students will learn the concepts of creative water media and the class is open to all levels. The Acrylics Class will be held November 12, 13, 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lynda will lead students through the use of acrylic paints which are versatile and well suited to the exploration of different types of approaches in the creative process. How about some positive recognition for a job well done to those who deserve it? The Rotary Club of Bluffton is now accepting nominations for two new community awards: to be given on November 15th. The theme is Believing In Bluffton.
There are two categories:
A group who best symbolizes Believing in Bluffton through their work and achievements and an individual who best symbolizes someone who Believes In B;luffton by their action, success or ideas.
How to nominate:
Write a short paragraph on why you think this individual or group deserves to receive the First Annual Believing In Bluffton Awards.

POLO FOR CHARITY – A VETERAN’S DAY CELEBRATION AT BLUFFTON’S BIGGEST PICNIC
Sunday, November 9, 2008 At the Rose Hill Plantation Equestrian Center
All veterans and active military are invited and receive free admission.
There will also be a “best dressed dog contest” at 12:30pm. Awards will be given for best doggies costume, best look-alike dog and owner and several other fun categories. World famous jockey, Eddie Maples will be the judge.
Admission Tickets are $12.00 per person in ADVANCE. $15.00 per person at the gate. Children under 12 are free. Gates open at 12:00 noon for tailgating with the match commencing at 2:00. Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn
Dragonflies of Hilton Head Island
A presentation on the dragonflies inhabiting the lagoons of HH will be presented on November 20th from 1–2:30 p.m. at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn. Birding at Honey Horn
A series of birding programs to be held at Honey Horn. Walks are scheduled from 7:30 am to 9:30 am each month through May 2009. The first in the series is November 12th. Reservations may be made by calling 843-689-6767 ext 223. Cost is $10.00 per person and you must be at least 12 years old to participate.
HH Dance Theater’s Production of The Nutcracker
Friday, November 7th with additional evening performances on the 8th and the 12th through the 15th. Matinee performances are scheduled for November 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th. Matinee performances will begin at 2:30 and evening performances begin at 7:30. Tickets are $26 for adults, $18 for students ages 16 through 18 and $16 for children. The Arts Center will add a $5 facility fee to the cost of each ticket.
