Bluffton SC Special Update
Lulabelle of the Lowcountry

Drop Cap elcome back to Lullabelle in the Lowcountry! It’s hard to believe that Christmas is almost here, and with that comes holiday entertaining. I’m always on the lookout for unique & easy recipes and this one certainly delivers! I had this at a friend’s house in Alabama years ago, and begged her for the recipe. My family loved it, and now it has become our tradition at Christmas and at many other celebration events. It is soooo good, fi lled with savory sausage, two kinds of cheese, all in an easy to handle “wonton star.” It also makes a great, festive appetizer for New Year’s Eve. Get ready for the compliments, and be prepared to share this recipe with your friends this Holiday Season!

Season's Eatings! ............................................LulabelleThe End

Sausage Wonton Stars

1 lb pork sausage, cooked, crumbled and drained on paper towels
1 pkg. Hidden Valley Ranch Dry dressing mix
1- 8 oz cup milk
1- 8 oz cup mayonnaise
16 oz shredded cheddar cheese
12 oz shredded pepper jack cheese
1 tablespoon chopped parsley flakes
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1 pkg. small square wonton wrappers

Combine dressing mix, milk and mayonnaise in a medium bowl. Whisk together to blend ingredients. Place bowl in freezer to chill. Chill mixture for at least 30 minutes.

In large mixing bowl, combine cheeses, spices and cooked sausage.

Stir in chilled mayonnaise mixture.

Spray insides of standard size muffi n tins with a nonstick spray.

Gently press two of the wonton wrappers into each cup, one on top of the other, separating slightly, so that the edges of the wontons flair out like a star over the edges.

Repeat with remaining wontons. You should have about 24 wonton cups total. (you may have more depending on brand of wontons)

Bake at 350 degrees 4-5 minutes till very lightly browned.

Fill each baked wonton cup with about 1 1/2 tablespoons of meat/cheese mixture.

Bake filled wontons at 350 degrees, for about 4-5 more minutes, or until cheese is melted. (Be careful not to overcook and let edges get too brown.)

Yield 24 wontons

Lulabelle’s Tip of the Month

One of the things I like about this recipe is its versatility. If you don’t have time to do the wonton cups you can also spread the sausage/cheese mixture onto slices of French bread or party rye bread slices for a quick and easy snack. Just place the slices of bread, topped with the filling, on foil lined baking sheets and bake about 4-5 minutes at 350 degrees, until the cheese is hot and bubbly. Also if you have any extra filling left over, you can freeze it, in case you need a quick snack for unexpected guests! -Lulabelle
